Questioning Psychology's Findings: A Real Crisis
The replicability crisis in psychology refers to the fact that many psychological findings, especially those from experimental studies, cannot be reliably reproduced. Replicability and reproducibility are cornerstones of the scientific method and are necessary for establishing the validity and robustness of a finding. In this video, I review how the replicability crisis started and then worsened as researchers adopted questionable research practices (QPRs), including the use of small sample sizes, selective reporting of data, and the manipulation of outliers. 0:00 Introduction 0:58 Antecedents 7:53 False Positives 9:30 P-curve analysis 13:10 Small sample sizes 16:10 Selective reporting 16:44 Optional stopping 17:47 p-value rounding 18:23 File drawer effect 18:49 Post hoc storytelling (HARKing) 20:12 Manipulation of outliers 22:48 Science paper 2015 28:11 Conclusion #reproducibility #psychology #science #psychologyfacts #openscience ✨ABOUT ME: I received my Ph.D. from the University of Southern California in Los Angeles.
