EP.15 - Parolacce, antisessismo e m*rte con Yasmina Pani

Yasmina arrived at Casa Libera, breaking down the door of clichés and speaking about what isn't spoken about: profanity, gender roles, and m*rth. Yasmina Pani is a linguist, author, literature teacher, and popularizer. Passionate about the humanities since childhood, she decided to study and graduate with a degree in Classics. Since then, she has taught linguistics and literature online, giving courses and private lessons. Meanwhile, she has opened a YouTube channel where she discusses the topics that most interest her, both professionally and in a more personal and humorous way. In 2022, she published her first book, "SCHWA: A Problem-Free Solution: Science and Hoaxes on Inclusive Language," which quickly became one of the most authoritative references on the topic. Today, she continues her work in popularization and online teaching, and dedicates herself to writing articles for several important newspapers such as Today. Together we analyzed profanity (swear words, to be clear) and its function, meaning, and uses, often referring to Antonio Capuano's book "Turpia." We then discussed her anti-sexist stance, how she feels about her female gender role, and why she's fighting for men. Finally, we reflected on how we speak and feel about death, its ontological value, and her recent experience of a family bereavement. #antisexism #books #italianlanguage #insults #women #death #feminism #mourning _ 00:00 Intro 00:35 Theme Song 00:54 Guest Introduction 03:45 Are there words that would be better left unsaid? 04:30 Does what you say matter more than how you say it? 06:15 Are swear words useful or replaceable? 10:00 Do those who use swear words appear more authentic or more vulgar? 11:14 What do the swear words we use say about our society? 12:54 How long do the ways we think influence the ways we speak, or vice versa? 14:02 How long do you think it takes for a new word to integrate into a language? 15:48 How important are words in self-determination? 22:46 Have you ever been insulted?
