The New Farakka Bridge is a 5.47 km, four-lane structure spanning the Ganga River in West Bengal, India. Built downstream of the historic Farakka Barrage, it connects North and South Bengal, cutting down hours of travel time by decongesting the ageing Barrage. Current Traffic ArrangementTo eliminate the severe 1 to 1.5-hour traffic jams that historically plagued the route, traffic is now split:Southbound / Towards Kolkata: Uses the new Farakka Bridge.Northbound / Towards Siliguri: Uses the older Farakka Barrage road bridge.
