In this video I share how I go about teaching Shakespeare to my elementary age student. I share reasons why it is important to study Shakespeare. Then I discuss the important components of my approach to reading his plays. Building background knowledge is the first step. Reading a retelling and listening to the play along with the use of puppets really enhances the child's understanding and enjoyment. I encourage watching video productions of the play. Going to see a live production is a real treat! Kids love to get together to do Shakespeare readings or act out a scene or share monologues. These few tips shared in the video will give you the confidence that you can absolutely share this important part of a quality education with your students in your homeschool.
