Edyta left for the Netherlands for just a few months. She wanted to earn money for the winter, get back on her feet after her divorce, and return to Poland. She spent her first night in a tent, which was blown away by the wind during a storm. Every morning, she waited to see if the farm owner would choose her for the hard work of picking flowers. Little did she know then that the Netherlands would become her home for years to come. She started by working in the fields and cleaning houses. Later, together with her partner, she ran one of the first legal Polish construction companies in the Netherlands. She worked on construction sites and cleaned schools, preschools, and apartments to ensure her children had the same opportunities as their Dutch peers. Then life struck with unimaginable force. Edyta was diagnosed with cancer. Just as she managed to undergo treatment and began to regain hope, a tragic car accident occurred. Her partner died instantly, and she suffered serious spinal and rib injuries. Despite the illness, pain, and grief, she refused to let her life come to a halt forever. She began learning photography, created her own studio, and seven years after her partner's death, organized an exhibition in Amsterdam.
