How realised beings stay peaceful in a chaotic world. In deep sleep there is no anxiety, no ambition, no fear. The mind becomes silent and for a few hours the burden of individuality disappears. There is peace, but no conscious recognition of it. Turiya is different. It is pure awareness, awake even when the mind is silent. Ordinarily these two seem separate. In sleep there is peace but no awareness. In waking there is awareness but often little peace. The yogi discovers a remarkable possibility. The peace of deep sleep can remain present within conscious awareness. He walks, speaks, works and participates fully in life, yet inwardly a stillness remains undisturbed. Abhinavagupta describes realization not as escape from life but as freedom within it. People notice this quality in evolved beings. A natural ease. Unhurried actions. Not because they are passive, but because they are no longer driven by inner agitation. This is Shiva Sutra 43.
