Real Chinese Vlog | Lunar New Year Countdown Day-4 | The Legend of Nian & New Year Shopping

Hi péngyǒumen! This is Day 4 of my Chinese New Year Countdown — a real Chinese vlog 🤍 Today, I went to the local market and shops with my dad to prepare for the New Year. In China, we call this “置办年货” (zhì bàn nián huò) — preparing all the special items we need for the Spring Festival. We bought: • Fireworks and firecrackers 🎆 • Baijiu (Chinese liquor) 🍶 • Lanterns for children 🏮 Before going out, I also shared the traditional story behind “过年” (celebrating the New Year). When I was little, my elders told me a legend: Long, long ago, there was a monster called “Nian” that came to a village and hurt people. Villagers tried many ways to protect themselves and finally discovered that Nian was afraid of loud noises. That’s why people started setting off firecrackers — to scare Nian away. Over time, this became a New Year tradition. And from then on, Nian never came back again. This vlog is spoken at a natural speed. There are no subtitles burned into the video, but I’ve uploaded both Chinese and English subtitles on YouTube, so you can turn them on if you need them.
