In the Wakhan Corridor, in eastern Afghanistan, the last Kyrgyz nomads form the most isolated high-altitude community on the planet. Reclusive in their mountain camps at 4,300 meters above sea level, only 1,200 of them remain, barely surviving. Yet, just a few kilometers away lie three developed worlds: China, Tajikistan, and Pakistan. But borders have closed with history, trapping them on Afghan soil. Here, there are no schools, no vehicles, no electricity, no crops... not even a tree! As the era of globalization threatens to engulf them, the Kyrgyz of the Afghan Pamir must fight to survive and preserve their way of life and traditions.
