Cardboard is everywhere in our daily lives. Many people care deeply about recycling, so I want to share a tip on how you can repurpose boxes or cardboard in your garden. It’s important to know that cardboard is largely made up of cellulose. And if there’s one thing earthworms love, it’s cellulose. In my garden, I have an area I’d like to redesign. Right now, it’s overrun with weeds and leftover grass, but I’d much rather see a flower bed there. Since I’m not too keen on digging up the area myself, I’ve decided to let nature handle the “renovation” for me. The first step is to cover the area where the flower bed will go with old cardboard. This kills off the weeds and grass while also attracting earthworms, who will do the digging for me. Next, I cover the cardboard with leaves and green clippings.
