Queen Elizabeth knights Captain Tom Moore at Windsor Castle
Captain Thomas Moore, the 100-year-old WWII veteran and fundraising hero in the UK, was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in a special ceremony at Windsor Castle on Friday. The "unique" ceremony, held outdoors and with sparse attendance due to concerns over COVID-19, was held in honour of Moore, who turned walking laps in his garden to recover from a hip injury into a fundraising phenomenon in the UK, raising more than £32m for NHS charities. "Thank you so much, an amazing amount of money you raised," Queen Elizabeth told Capt. Moore at Windsor Castle. The Queen used the sword that belonged to her father, George VI, to bestow the insignia of Knight Bachelor upon Moore, hereafter known as Sir Thomas Moore. “It’s amazing and what I love also is that he’s a 99-year-old war vet,” said Prince William in a special video message for Moore the prince posted on social media. “He’s been around a long time, he knows everything and it’s wonderful that everyone has been inspired by his story and his determination.” For more info, please go to https://globalnews.ca/news/6832029/ca...
