Radha Kunda is considered the heart of Vrindavan, and among its many holy sites, Jahnavi-baithak holds a special place—a place associated with the memory of Lord Chaitanya's associates and great Vaishnavas. It is here that one of the most inspiring stories of modern pilgrimage to Vrindavan takes place. Achintya Krishna dasa talks about the outstanding Vaishnava, Paramananda Baba. Many ISKCON devotees and Vaishnavas from all over the world know him as a man of extraordinary service. For decades, he restored forgotten holy places in Vraja, cared for pilgrims, and inspired people to devotional service. We are at Sri Chaitanya-baithak, a place on Radha Kunda where, according to tradition, Chaitanya Mahaprabhu stayed during his pilgrimage to Vrindavana. Paramananda Baba dedicated the final years of his service to this place, making it a center for spiritual association and glorification of Lord Chaitanya. Jahnavi-baithak, one of the most cherished places on Radha Kunda, attracts special attention. A memorial plaque glorifying Srila Prabhupada has been installed here. For many devotees, this symbolizes the continuity of the mission: from Lord Chaitanya to the acharyas of the past and to the present-day spread of Krishna consciousness throughout the world. Paramananda Baba says that one should not consider oneself the master of service. We are merely instruments in the hands of the Lord, through whom He can express His mercy and love. This is the true mood of a Vaishnava. Srila Prabhupada explained that Lord Chaitanya is Krishna Himself, appearing in the mood of His devotee. According to Gaudiya Vaishnava teachings, His appearance was motivated by two great purposes. The first was the desire to understand the love of Srimati Radharani and experience the depth of feelings experienced by Radha and Krishna in their relationship. The second was boundless compassion. Chaitanya Mahaprabhu came to make spiritual life accessible to everyone, spreading Hare Krishna, the holy name, and love of God, regardless of one's origin. Therefore, the story of Paramananda Baba is more than just the tale of an outstanding saint.
