Without doubt, D. W. Griffith’s most underrated film is 1912’s “The Female of the Species”. Starring Mary Pickford, Claire Mcdowell, and Dorthy Bernard, the film has no climactic chases, no gun fights, and no social message like Griffith’s other Biographs- and yet, it is just as gripping, if not more so than those that feature them.
