South Africa's Inter-Ministerial Committee on Migration has provided a major update on the government's crackdown on illegal immigration. During the briefing, government revealed that more than 40,000 illegal immigrants have been arrested since January 2026, while over 7,400 arrests were made in the past month alone. Authorities also confirmed that nearly 7,000 Malawian nationals are awaiting repatriation, with buses being deployed to assist those returning home. The briefing outlined government plans to strengthen border security, combat corruption, increase law enforcement operations and accelerate deportations through the reopening of a court at Lindela Repatriation Centre.
