The landscape of aquaculture is now increasingly characterized by intensification. High stocking densities are being implemented to achieve higher profits and meet rising demand. Amidst this trend, biofloc cultivation could be a solution. Simply put, biofloc is a fish farming system that utilizes specific bacteria to convert accumulated organic matter into clumps (flocs) that can be eaten by fish. This system is now widely used, particularly for catfish. It is said that the biofloc system can optimize stocking densities to 1,000 to 3,000 catfish per square meter, or 10 times higher than conventional methods. In this video, I Putu Suarma, an instructor from the Banyuwangi Fish and Fisheries Development Agency (BPPP), will guide us on how to raise catfish using the biofloc cultivation system.
