The Suicide Machines - Derek's Third Practice (1992) - The Suicide Machines Files

Boombox recording allegedly of my third rehearsal after joining (Jack Kevorkian and) The Suicide Machines in October 1992, which would date this sometime in November. This was on a cassette labeled The Kevorkian Chronicles Vol. 1, which I made in 1993. It was a compilation of early recordings from both before and right after I joined the band, going back as far as one of the first rehearsals when they were still called The Uglies. If this was, indeed, only my third time playing with the band, even if it was just one of the first dozen times, there was clearly a synergy - it sounds like we’d been rehearsing for months. I believe the song "Suicide Machines" was written prior to my joining, but this is the earliest recording I can find, which means it might be the first drum parts I wrote for the band. I was given cassettes of live recordings and old rehearsals to learn the other songs when I was first asked to audition, so for those, I tried to stay faithful to the original drum parts, just a little more structured and streamlined. Snotrag, however, was brand new at the time (Jay Navarro calls it “the new one” on the recording) - it marked a change in songwriting that would continue to evolve over the next few years.
