Visite guidée du musée de l'imprimerie de l'Ifao

In 1907, the institute moved from its premises on Antikhana Street to the Mounira Palace. From that date onward, the Mounira Palace offered the institute its prestigious setting and the space necessary for its printing press. This printing press was primarily dedicated to the institute's publications, but at one time it also handled the work of the Egyptian Antiquities Service: the General Catalogue of the Cairo Museum, Excavations at Saqqara, the Annals of the Egyptian Antiquities Service, and The Submerged Temples of Nubia. More than 110 years after its creation, the Ifao printing press continues to serve the publications of archaeology, Egyptology, and history. It has adapted, modernized, and even weathered two revolutions: the transition from lead type to offset printing, and the transition from offset to digital presses. This guided tour by Mathieu Gousse, director of the editorial department at Ifao, presents this small conservatory of crafts which tells the story of lead printing which lasted at Ifao from 1907 to 1992. Film directed by Joseph Ballu.
