The Untold Story of Choti Deeba Temple | Faith & the Legacy of Garhwal's Dhakaris

In this documentary, we explore the fascinating history of Choti Deeba (Dhakari Deeba) Mata Temple, a revered roadside shrine located between Dhumakot and Bironkhal in Uttarakhand. This temple is closely associated with the Dhakaris—the traditional mountain traders of Garhwal—who once carried essential goods such as jaggery, salt, grains, and spices from Ramnagar to remote Himalayan villages on their backs, long before roads existed. According to local tradition, these traders established this sacred shrine and sought the blessings of Deeba Mata before continuing their difficult journeys. We also meet Savitri Devi, who has served as the temple's caretaker and priestess for over 26 years, continuing a tradition begun by her father around 1955 after he returned from Quetta (now in Pakistan) following the Partition.
