Black spot is one of the most common rose diseases. No rose variety is completely resistant to black spot. Some varieties are more susceptible, while others are less susceptible. Most rose varieties regularly suffer from black spot. This disease is caused by a fungus. Warm, humid weather is the most favorable conditions for the fungus to develop. In the second half of summer, blurry black spots appear on the leaves, and the lower leaves quickly turn yellow and fall off. Black spot is distinguished by the fact that the leaves fall from the bottom up, starting with the lower ones, and then moving upwards. If there have been previous cases of this disease nearby, the spores are likely still alive and "waiting" for the right time to "attack" the rose. Just a few hours of warm, humid weather is enough for black spot spores to germinate. Symptoms will be unnoticeable for the first few days, but as soon as the first spots appear, immediate action is needed. To treat black spot, remove all affected leaves from the bush—the sooner the better. Collect and burn all fallen leaves under the bushes; collect and burn them regularly. For those who aren't afraid to use chemicals, treat the affected bush with copper-containing products once at the first signs of disease. These include Bordeaux mixture, Abiga-Peak, copper sulfate, or Oxychom. After removing all affected leaves, you can treat the rose bushes at least three times with contact and systemic fungicides, such as mancozeb-based (Ridomil Gold, Profit, etc.) or triazole-based (Skor, Topaz, etc.). For those who prefer biological treatments, treat with a solution of Fitosporin-M (paste) with the addition of Zircon or Siliplant at the first sign of disease. Repeat treatment 3-4 times, every 5 days. Between sprays, water the soil around the rose bush several times with Fitosporin-M. Before covering the bush for the winter, remove all affected leaves from the bush and be sure to burn them.
