Le Marseillaise [1931 recording of French anthem] (With english lyrics)

-History: La Marseillaise is the national anthem of France and was first written in 1792 by Claude Joseph Rouget de Lisle in Strasbourg. The song was first called Chant de guerre pour l'Armée du Rhin. The song was adopted as the official anthem of the first Frech republic in 1795. The melody soon became the rallying call to the French Revolution and was adopted as "La Marseillaise" after the melody was first sung on the streets by volunteers from Marseille by the end of May. Not long after it's status as the national anthem of France, the song under Napoleon I was no longer the national anthem, and was banned outright by Louis XVIII and Charles X (the french kings after the napoleonice fiasco), being re-instated only briefly after the July Revolution of 1830. During the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, "La Marseillaise" was recognised as the anthem of the international revolutionary movement. It was adopted by the Paris Commune in 1871, but with new lyrics under the title "La Marseillaise de la Commune". Eight years later, in 1879, it was restored as France's national anthem, and has remained so ever since. #history #france #lamarseillaise #anthem --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -The record: La Marseillaise / Columbia records Claude Joseph Rouget de Lisle / L 3408 Performed by: M.
