He was a priest of Midian and Moses' father-in-law, since his daughter Zipporah married the Hebrew leader. When Moses fled Egypt after killing an Egyptian, he was taken in by Jethro and spent years living with his family. During this time, Moses worked as a shepherd for Jethro's flocks. This coexistence was essential for Moses' spiritual and emotional maturity. After the episode of the burning bush, when God called Moses to free the people of Israel, he returned to Egypt with the support of his family. Jethro appears again in the narrative after the liberation of the Israelites, when he takes Zipporah and Moses' children to meet him in the desert. On this occasion, Jethro realizes that Moses is overloaded with tasks and advises him to delegate responsibilities.
