The Pasang-Lhamu Highway / Kathmandu–Kakani stretch has been undergoing ongoing upgrades and widening works to improve traffic flow and safety. The current road condition still has sections of dirt, gravel, narrow passageways, and partial blacktop, especially near hilly segments and construction zones. Historically, the road section between Balaju / Machhapokhari up to Ranipauwa–Kakani has faced delays and contract issues with road widening projects in the past due to contractor underperformance.
