La Cina di MAO (1949-1972)

➡ BUY “World War II in 50 Whys”! https://linktr.ee/LaStoriaSulTubo2 How can a communist nation challenge the USSR and at the same time get closer to the USA? Mao's China rewrites the rules of the Cold War between radicalism, internal tragedies and surprise diplomacy. ► SUPPORT THE PROJECT: https://steadyhq.com/it/lastoriasultu... During the Cold War, Mao Zedong's China asserted itself as an autonomous actor in the geopolitical context, challenging both the United States and the Soviet Union. Although it shared the communist ideology with Moscow, a deep rift soon emerged between the two countries: China accused the USSR of revisionism and relaunched a more radical and independent communism, supporting revolutions in the Third World. After an initial phase of cooperation, the detachment materializes in the 1960s, when ideological and strategic differences even lead to armed clashes on the Ussuri River in 1969. Internally, Mao launches the “Great Leap Forward” in 1958, a plan to increase industrial and agricultural production through the creation of people’s communes and forced collectivization. The project proves disastrous: millions of people die due to famine. Later, to reaffirm his power, Mao starts the Cultural Revolution (1966-1969), mobilizing young people through the Red Guards against alleged revisionists within the Communist Party. This campaign of purges and violence devastates Chinese society and economy, and culminates with the reestablishment of order by the army. Meanwhile, China independently develops its own atomic bomb (1964) and presents itself as an independent nuclear power. After years of isolation, Chou En-lai's foreign policy began to open up new international relations. The break with the USSR led China to look to the United States. In 1971, the People's Republic replaced Taiwan on the UN Security Council, an event made possible by American support. In 1972, the sensational meeting between Nixon and Mao took place: a gesture that broke China's isolation and marked an epochal diplomatic turning point. In the meantime, the United States was increasingly involved in Vietnam, a sign of a Cold War that was changing its face and protagonists. ► Discord Server:   / discord   ► Instagram (@lastoriasultubo):   / lastoriasul…   ► TikTok (@lastoriasultubo): https://vm.tiktok.com/ZM8tS7YR1/ ► Facebook:   / lastoriasultubo   ================================== 00:00 - The difficult relations between China and the USSR 01:34 - Mao's economic policies 02:36 - The Great Leap Forward 03:45 - The break with the USSR and the clashes on the Ussuri River 05:10 - The Cultural Revolution 08:13 - Lai's ministry and the relationship with the USA ================================== A Specter Film Collective production www.specterfilmcollective.com STARRING: Francesco Furesi, Pietro Iacopo Benzi ARTISTIC DIRECTION: Francesco Furesi SCREENPLAY: Pietro Iacopo Benzi, Francesca Faverio, Francesco Furesi HISTORY CONTENTS: Pietro Iacopo Benzi, Francesca Faverio PHOTOGRAPHY: Mattia Rossetti DIRECTED AUDIO: Edoardo Conti EDITING: Edoardo Conti SET DESIGN: Erica Mora MOTION DESIGN: Francesco Furesi, Mattia Rossetti, Lauryn Stella Sardella STOCK FOOTAGE: Pietro Iacopo Benzi COVER: Simone Acquaroli SOUND DESIGN & MIX: Andrea Romani PRODUCTION: Caterina Scalfi
