Synopsis In Ai Ye’s mind, a romantic relationship seems to be something she must navigate entirely on her own. During a film shoot, Ai Ye unexpectedly encounters Bai Yang, a young man she has feelings for. Their brief time together leaves Ai Ye with mixed emotions. How will Ai Ye respond to the direction their relationship is taking? Director’s Statement The film explores the relationship between ‘distance’ and ‘imagination’ within romantic inclinations. Ai Ye and Bai Yang’s love at first sight is founded on a certain social distance between them. By chance, their encounter on set brings them closer together—Bai Yang is the one who actively closes the gap, whilst Ai Ye wishes to maintain her distance. Firstly, this is because her feelings for Bai Yang are sustained by her own imagination (which can be understood as a form of self-projection); upon encountering the real Bai Yang (that is, the inevitable understanding brought about by the narrowing of social distance), this imagination crumbles of its own accord; secondly, because Ai Ye wishes to control the pace of their social interaction herself; the other party’s initiative leads to her withdrawal. After spending time together on set and at subsequent gatherings, Ai Ye becomes even more certain of her romantic inclinations.
