S3E96 : Après 4 ans de voyage, nous n'avions jamais vu ça !

After more than a year traveling the world in our 1980 Land Rover Series 3, we continue our incredible journey through China and finally discover one of Asia's most spectacular regions: Guilin, Xingping, and the famous karst mountains that have made this part of the country world-renowned. In this new leg of our 4x4 world tour, we head towards the iconic landscapes of the Li River, between Guilin and Yangshuo. For years, we've seen these mountains with their incredible shapes in documentaries, postcards, and travelogues. Seeing them with our own eyes surpasses anything we could have imagined. As the kilometers rolled by, our vintage Land Rover took us into the heart of an almost surreal landscape: karst peaks emerging from the mist, traditional Chinese villages, verdant rice paddies, roads winding through the mountains, and viewpoints that were among the most breathtaking we had seen since leaving Europe. This region of Guangxi is often considered one of the most beautiful places in China, and we quickly understood why. Between Xingping, Yangshuo, and the legendary landscapes immortalized on the 20-yuan note, every turn held a new surprise. We took the time to explore, to get lost on the back roads, to meet the locals, and to discover an authentic China, far removed from the sprawling metropolises we often imagine. As always, this adventure was also about embracing a way of life. Traveling in a classic vehicle across Asia required adaptation, patience, and sometimes a good dose of improvisation. But that's precisely what made each day unique. Behind the picture-postcard landscapes lie the realities of long-distance travel: the planning, the unexpected, border crossings, living in close quarters, and the thousands of kilometers covered together. Since we set off, our Land Rover has taken us through the Middle East, deserts, the Pamir Mountains in Tajikistan, the vast steppes of Kazakhstan, Mongolia, the Gobi Desert, and now to southern China. Each country we've crossed reminds us why we chose this life on the road: to discover the world differently, to take the time to understand cultures, and to live experiences that aren't found in guidebooks.
