Mainz Hauptbahnhof: Zugverkehr mit Tunnelblick – S-Bahn Rhein-Neckar, Rhein-Main, ICE, RE, Tram

Mainz central situation is located at the boundary of the old city centre of Mainz, a city in Rhineland-Palatinate (Germany). Mainz has about 217,000 inhabitants. Intercity and ICE (InterCityExpress) trains serve the station in long distance traffic. Then, there are regional express trains: Süwex (operated by Deutsche Bahn, DB, consisting of Stadler Flirt electric multiple units – EMUs) and vlexx. Vlexx is a subsidiary of Regentalbahn. Their trains consist of LINT Diesel multiple units (DMUs). There are also regional trains, like those operated by Hessische Landesbahn. Mainz also belongs to 2 suburban rail networks: S-Bahn Rhein-Main and S-Bahn Rhein-Neckar. They provide connections to Wiesbaden, Frankfurt (Main) and Mannheim-Ludwigshafen. In front of the railway station you can change to many lines of city traffic – buses and trams. South of Mainz Central station tracks lead into a tunnel in the direction of the next station, Mainz Römisches Theater (Roman Theatre). There several lines split up. Thus, a lot of traffic can be watched at the tunnel entries.
