In 1655, Swedish military maps show 12 bastions of the Rosenberg Fortress. The siege ends. Peace begins. 1680 – new maps: suddenly 17 bastions. Five massive fortifications. 80,000 cubic meters of earth moved. At least 10 years of work for hundreds of men. But in the archives? Nothing. No construction records. No proof of financing. No tool purchases. No quarry contracts. No names of master builders. 25 years of peace between 1655 and 1680. No military budgets. The city was still paying off war debts. How did five new bastions arise without any documented work? 1960: Workers discover tunnels beneath the fortress. An entire network. These tunnels connect all five new bastions – and are not shown on any historical map. 2019: During renovations, archaeologists find a stone slab in the foundation. Inscription: "Silentium est aurum" – Silence is golden. Dated 1679. 2021: Ground-penetrating radar scans reveal further unknown cavities beneath the bastions. 30% larger than previously known.
