CULTURAL COMPETENCE & DIVERSITY in HEALTHCARE
Becoming culturally competent can be a challenging task for many, but it is very important that you learn how to care for diverse patients. Cultural competence is crucial in caring for patients and their families, as this shows that you care about the patient's culture, beliefs, religion, and customs. Being culturally competent individuals decreases the healthcare disparities that exist in our communities and healthcare systems. It is very important to treat everyone with respect, and provide quality care without prejudice, and without playing favorites. Cultural awareness in healthcare allows healthcare providers to care for individuals from other cultures, countries, and ethnic backgrounds. Showing empathy to patients, providing adequate time to answer questions, using an interpreter when needed for those individuals that do not speak English are crucial steps towards becoming a culturally competent nurse and healthcare provider. Treat everyone with love & kindness, and above all Equality. #culturalcompetency #equality #saynotoracism Comments? Suggestions? Please share!
