Las fuentes españolas del Necronomicón: del Antiguo Egipto a Al-Ándalus | Pura Virtud

“Lovecraft, even as a radical atheist, always felt a religious yearning that he himself repressed and sublimated… Lovecraft clung to a narrow materialism and an outdated logic that, as usual, engendered a compensatory irrationalism.” Rafael Llopis, The Cthulhu Mythos There was a Spanish author and editor, Rafael Llopis, whom I consider one of the very few writers who stood—and still stand—shoulder to shoulder with the English-speaking authors of the Cthulhu Mythos, despite never having published in English. I like to refer to his work as the “Hispanic Cthulhu Mythos.” There have been other Spanish-speaking writers of the Mythos, of course, but Llopis was different. He also edited one of the most iconic Cthulhu Mythos anthologies ever published in Spanish, a volume that helped establish much of the canon and shaped the understanding of generations of readers already immersed in the niche. His work, *El novísimo Algazife*, which explores Abdul Alhazred and his ties to Al-Andalus, was originally published by Hiperión before being reissued by another legendary publisher, La Biblioteca del Laberinto, which sadly closed its doors recently. That publisher also had a unique and remarkable editorial vision. In fact, some of its volumes are exclusive to the Spanish language, compiling works by English-speaking authors that have never appeared together anywhere else. As a result, these editions have even been cataloged in English-language databases despite being entirely in Spanish—and believe me, very few Spanish-language publishers can make that claim. I tried to get a copy of Llopis's Algazife when I had the chance... but by then it was too late. I'll see if I can at least track down some of the other books published by La Biblioteca del Laberinto. This post is simply the result of a moment of reflection on the Spanish-language Cthulhu Mythos scene. Source: https://x.com/PaterDagon/status/20774... "One of the best-known—though least understood—manifestations of Thelemic thought has been the work of Kenneth Grant, a British occultist and former secretary to Aleister Crowley, who discovered a hidden world in the primary sources of the Aeon of Horus. Using complementary texts from authors as diverse as H. P. Lovecraft, Jack Parsons, Austin Osman Spare, and Charles Stansfeld Jones (Frater Achad), Grant formulated a magical system that expanded upon that outlined in the rituals of the Ordo Templi Orientis: one that includes a mixture of Tantric, Voodoo, and Lovecraftian narrative elements. Lord of Darkness addresses the themes of the writings of Kenneth Grant, H. P. Lovecraft, and the Necronomicon, uncovering new meanings intertwined among them. A book that deals with religion, literature and occultism, and it is for both Thelemites and lovers of the Cthulhu Mythos in all its variations. Also for those who consider the rituals of classical ceremonial magic unsuitable for the New Aeon." Who was Aleister Crowley really, and what was his relationship with Freemasonry? What is Thelemism, and what does the Aeon of Horus consist of? What are the fundamental points of his philosophy? Poet, occultist, climber, spy, magician, Satanist, cult leader, and founder of a new religion, Edward Alexander Crowley was born in Warwickshire, England, into a wealthy and puritanical family, and from a very young age, he devoted himself passionately to the study of the occult sciences. In 1898, he joined the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, a fashionable secret society among English intellectuals at the time, and later became a Freemason in Mexico. Who was Aleister Crowley, and what was his relationship with Freemasonry? During his honeymoon in Cairo, he had a revelation, wrote The Book of the Law, and founded a new religion, Thelema, whose maxim, "do what thou wilt," he adopted as his guiding principle. These Confessions, published for the first time in Spanish, recount the fascinating life story of a unique individual. He traveled to India and China to study their philosophy and religion, climbed to the summit of K2, lived in New York during World War I, where he worked as a spy infiltrated into pro-German groups, acquired an old mansion in Cefalù, Sicily, and founded the Abbey of Thelema there, a commune where rituals of sexual magic were practiced. He called himself The Great Beast 666 and was described by the press as "the most evil man in the world." #lovecraft #cthulhu #necronomicon #Crowley #Freemasonry
