Daniel Boaventura is one of Brazil's most versatile artists. Television audiences recognize him for his appearances in soap operas such as "Passione," on Rede Globo, and "Haja Coração," both on Rede Globo. Musical fans adore his performances in "My Fair Lady," "The Addams Family," and, most recently, "Peter Pan." Ten years ago, Boaventura embarked on one of the most successful aspects of his artistic career: that of a performer. These moments have given him greater success and visibility. The Bahian has a loyal fan base in Brazil, with a repertoire that combines jazz and musical standards with pop hits. His talent has resonated even in Mexico, where, last year, he recorded a live DVD at one of the country's top concert venues. Russia also wanted its share of Boaventura: he recently performed there and recorded a DVD, which will be released later this year. In an interview with VEJA Música, Boaventura discusses his origins as a ballroom singer in his native Bahia, up until the recent explosion in the former Soviet Union. He discusses his appearances in musicals, beginning with Stephen Sondheim's "Company," and his role in Andrew Lloyd Webber's "Sunset Boulevard," currently playing in São Paulo. He also reveals some of his plans—among them starring in Sondheim's macabre and bloody "Sweeney Todd."
