The Gospel of Mark 01 The Beginning of the Good News Mark is often called the earliest Gospel, yet it may also be the most misunderstood. Unlike Matthew and Luke, Mark contains no Christmas story. There are no shepherds, no wise men, no stories of Jesus as a child. Even more surprising, the earliest manuscripts end with the women fleeing the empty tomb in fear. Why would Mark tell the story this way? In this opening lesson, we explore the introduction to Mark's Gospel and begin asking the question that echoes through the entire book: "Who then is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?" (Mark 4:41) Mark's Gospel refuses easy answers. Instead, it invites us on a journey of discovery, discipleship, and wonder.
