999 response - Manual or Auto

Hi all, I was lucky enough recently to do a ride along with the Police traffic unit and learnt a lot about driving styles, skills and importantly, how to get the most from the auto gear box. Manual in an auto like this is still never fully manual as the car won't let you stall, will still shift when red lined but will allow full range of the revs unlike auto, even in Sport mode, shifts early. Trying the use of manual in this run I definitely noticed a huge difference in pick up and acceleration through the full rev range and also the reduction in lag when pulling away again from an abrupt slow down or junction.
