Run For The Roses Jerry Garcia Acoustic Guitar Solo (with tab)

Follow me on Twitter:   / weepingwillowgt   Check out my blog: http://weepingwillowguitar.com/blog/ Run for the Roses was the title track of Jerry Garcia's 1982 solo release. He would go on to perform this song often with JGB and as an acoustic duo with bassist John Kahn. Garcia and Kahn toured intermittently from 1982 to 1989 as an acoustic duo. Garcia ended up playing one completely solo show in his career on 4/10/82 when Kahn cancelled a show due to illness. In this lesson you will learn the approach Jerry would take when playing with John Kahn as an acoustic duo. There is a lot to learn from this lesson. First, it's a great example of Jerry using the CAGED system and soloing out of chord shapes. Second, it's a great example of how to take a solo when you're the only "chordal" instrument. Whether he was playing with John Kahn or by himself, Jerry had to make sure the harmony came through as he soloed. He did this by letting notes ring for as long as possible as he improvised out of chord shapes. To illustrate what an amazing solo this is, I also recorded a version with myself playing chords in the background. You can see that Jerry nailed the changes as he improvised this off the cuff. 0:17 Demo with tab 0:42 Introduction 2:59 Solo with Chords 3:37 Lesson 17:20 Solo played slowly
