Messeschlager Gisela - Staatstheater Cottbus

The piece blends the genres of operetta and musical, telling a story of strong women and unstoppable careers with a touch of nostalgia. The head of the state-owned enterprise (VEB) Berliner Chic actually wants to present his own dress design at the fashion fair in Leipzig, but a lovestruck journalist, a few tricks, and the secret efforts of the employees instead propel Gisela's design to stardom. With ingenuity, plenty of humor, and satirical jabs, Gisela and her colleagues use their fresh ideas to prevail against outdated views, antiquated structures, and questionable management: The "Gisela" model becomes a trade fair hit! The Cottbus State Theatre was the first theatre to stage Gerd Natschinski's "Gisela: A Trade Fair Hit" in 1961, following its premiere in Berlin. A second premiere followed in 1999. Musical specialist Katja Wolff has given the "dress for every woman" a fresh and vibrant new production, based on the successful original. . ...
