Week 182 - Kevaḍḍha Sutta (Part 2): “Discourse to the Householder Kevaḍḍha” (DN 11). (Recorded on May 2nd, 2026). PDF link to a free digital copy of the Sutta can be obtained from the website: https://www.mindreleased.com/pali-suttas Today's sutta exploration session was a continuation of the Kevaḍḍha sutta (DN 11), where Lord Buddha displays, in action, the miracle of instruction, showing the householder Kevaḍḍha that the ability to wield psychic powers or read the hearts and minds of others pale in comparison to the true miracle of instruction, whereby transformation takes place in the listener. That very miracle is what has reached us 26 centuries later, because of which we are listening to the Dhamma today, and thus are able to put it into livable practice and experience, here and now.  Bhante Candana explained that the Buddha was not against the psychic powers as such, or the ability to know the intentions and thoughts of others, but he was against the DISPLAY of such powers to show off or gain fame and attention, thus putting the spotlight on the intention with which one would show such abilities to others.  In today's session, we saw yet again the unprecedented and unparalleled system that is The Dhamma, with its step-by-step instruction and progression through mental cultivation, standing strong on the pillars of virtue of course, whereby the practitioner goes through the jhānas and gradually develops insights and pierces through the characteristics of dukkha, anicca, and anatta, seeing things for what they are and thus experiencing final relief from suffering.
