The child's bright, innocent laughter still echoed in the ears of her mother, who watched her little daughter from a distance with love and familiarity. But then, in a split second… as the mother looked away to attend to personal matters inside the house, when she returned to the front yard, the area that had been bustling with footprints and the cheerful chatter of the little girl was empty.
