The Walled City of Vannes I La Ville Close de Vannes
Vannes is a walled city in Brittany, France, that was settled by the Celts in pre-Roman times. After the Roman invasion, fortifications were built and Vannes became a walled city. Further additions such as towers, gates and bastions were added to the ramparts over the coming centuries, until the end of the 17th century. For the two centuries that followed, Vannes’ stonework was either dismantled for use elsewhere, or left in a state of ruin. This changed in the 20th century when preservation works commenced to save this heritage site. #France #CityofVannes #RomanInvasion #Brittany ______________________________________________ ▶ Like us on Facebook 👍 @theintriguedmind www.facebook.com/theintriguedmind ▶ Follow our Instagram @_intriguedmind www.instagram.com/_intriguedmind ▶ Follow our TikTok @_intriguedmind www.tiktok.com/@_intriguedmind
