Police Pursuit Suspects Captured With Drone | Wausau PD
On August 03, 2024 an officer observed a vehicle driving recklessly in a neighborhood on the southwest side of Wausau. The officer attempted to make a traffic stop, and the vehicle fled. The officer lost sight of the suspect vehicle, but it was found minutes later abandoned behind a business. Wausau Officers deployed our sUAS (commonly referred to as a drone) to check the area. The suspects were quickly located walking along the Wisconsin River behind the Wausau Public Works facility. As officers closed in on their location, the men fled into the woods along the river. The drone pilot was able to explain to officers where the men were hiding and get them to surrender with no further incident. Thank you to our community for providing us these tremendous tools which are helping us solve crime in new and more efficient ways! Were it not for this tool, it would have been highly unlikely these men would have been found.
