The heart of the documentary is dedicated to the Divine Comedy: the architecture of Hell and the principle of contrapasso, the construction of Purgatory as a realm of hope and movement, the difficulty and grandeur of Paradise as a canticle of silence and light that transcends language. The documentary also explores Dante's political thought, his vision of the relationship between spiritual and temporal power in the treatise Monarchia, his critique of papal corruption, and the hopes placed in the empire of Henry VII of Luxembourg.
