Hot topics on infections in critical care

Organised by ISAC's Working Group on Infections in the ICU and Sepsis. Infections represent a major cause of morbidity and mortality in the critical care setting, especially in our era of multidrug-resistant pathogens. During the COVID19 pandemic, on the other hand, a significant increase in the prevalence of ICU infections has been reported. Prompt diagnosis of critical care infections and appropriate treatment in optimised doses, along with antibiotic stewardship, are of outmost importance for improved outcomes and tackling antimicrobial resistance development. In this online event, internationally leading experts provided short presentations with up-to-date information on trending topics of infection and sepsis in critical care. 00:00 Start 00:39 Introduction by Despoina Koulenti 02:22 Diagnosis and management of severe community-acquired pneumonia by Antoni Torres 18:21 Diagnosis and management of abdominal sepsis by Jan De Waele 37:00 Management of infections caused by MDR Gram-negative pathogens by Patrick Harris 53:22 Management of S.aureus bacteremia by Stefan Hagel 1:12:44 Viral infections in the Intensive Care Unit by Sotirios Tsiodras 1:30:04 Role of biomarkers for sepsis diagnosis in critically ill patients Pedro Povoa 1:44:02 Antibiotic de-escalation by Liesbet De Bus 2:03:50 Antibiotic stewardship (in COVID-19 era) by Jeroen Schouten (the Netherlands) 2:26:58 Therapeutic Drug Monitoring and antibiotic optimization in the Intensive Care Unit by Hafiz Abdul-Aziz 2:55:54 Host-targeted immunotherapies in the Intensive Care Unit by Antoine Roquilly 3:15:47 COVID-19 in haematological malignancies: outcome of infection and the effects of vaccination by Evangelos Terpos 3:33:30 Ventilator associated pneumonia in COVID-19 patients by Andrew Conway Morris 3:55:20 Management of severe COVID19 infection by John Marshall 4:13:53 Highlights and closing remarks Disclaimer The webinars / lectures provided by the International Society of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy (ISAC) are for informational purposes only.
