Mesmerising Adhan on the Island of 9000 Mosques

After exploring the Islamic heritage of Lombok, Indonesia, I experienced what may have been the most beautiful moment of my entire journey: hearing the communal Adhan echo across the mountains of this incredible Muslim island. In this final chapter of my Lombok Muslim travel series, I visit remote Muslim villages, experience daily life among the people of Lombok, and explore some of the most important mosques and Islamic landmarks on the island. With more than 9,000 mosques, Lombok is known as the Island of a Thousand Mosques, and Islam is woven into every part of life here. One of the highlights of this journey was hearing the call to prayer (Adhan) resonate across the valley, reminding me of the unity of Muslims around the world and the beauty of belonging to the Ummah. From village life and mountain scenery to Islamic architecture and local hospitality, every moment felt connected to faith. Along the way, I enjoy halal Indonesian food, meet welcoming Muslims, and reflect on how we can preserve our Islamic heritage and sacred spaces for future generations.
