Driving Under China's Red Giant Mega-Bridge 4K HDR | Above One of Guizhou's Deepest Gorges

On this trip, we'll travel through the mountains of southwestern China. Amid some of Guizhou's most dramatic landscapes, we'll get a close look at a route that showcases the scale and ambition of modern Chinese infrastructure. Our journey begins in Huangguoshu Town, an area shaped by mature karst terrain. Surface rivers and underground waterways intertwine beneath a landscape that appears relatively gentle at first glance, yet hides a complex world below. As we continue southwest, the terrain drops rapidly. Here, the Baling River has carved a canyon hundreds of meters deep through the plateau, creating a formidable natural barrier. Steep cliffs rise on both sides, and the scenery becomes increasingly dramatic. One of the highlights of the trip comes when a massive red steel bridge suddenly appears ahead. Spanning the Baling River Gorge, this steel-truss suspension bridge stretches more than 2,200 meters in length, with its deck standing 370 meters above the river below. It remains one of the landmark achievements in Guizhou's bridge-building history. From a distance, the bright red structure resembles a giant dragon crossing the canyon, connecting two sides that once required hours of winding mountain roads to reach. Along the route, you'll see vehicles emerge from mountain tunnels, cross high above the gorge, and disappear into another mountainside within moments. Beneath the bridge is also an adventure sports area featuring bungee jumping and other attractions, making it a notable example of tourism built around major infrastructure. Beyond the gorge, the road enters Duanqiao Town, where the landscape gradually transitions from steep canyon walls to a broader river valley. The Baling, Mucheng, and Duanqiao Rivers converge here, creating a countryside scene of farmland, villages, and winding streams. After leaving Duanqiao, some of the most striking sights can be found along the cliffs north of town. On certain stretches of road, you may spot workers in safety helmets and high-visibility clothing suspended from ropes high above the ground. They carry out slope stabilization, install rockfall protection systems, and widen mountain roads on near-vertical rock faces. It is a reminder of the constant effort required to build and maintain transportation routes in this rugged landscape.
