海賊の島を歩く【 香川県丸亀市本島町 】 walk on pirate island【Honjima Town, Marugame City, Kagawa Prefecture】

Sandwiched between Okayama and Kagawa prefectures, the Seto Inland Sea is home to 28 islands, large and small, making up the Shiwaku Islands. Main island is the central island of the Shiwaku group, and was once the base of a pirate group known as the Shiwaku Navy. Oda Nobunaga and Toyotomi Hideyoshi granted the group 1,250 koku of land for the Shiwaku Seven Islands as official ship operators, and during the Edo period, Tokugawa Ieyasu granted them the status of "jinmei," granting them independent autonomy and allowing them to carry out government affairs. We took a stroll around Main island, which is said to be the island of the "Shiwaku Navy" and "jinmei."
