Hundreds of Zimbabweans desperate to leave South Africa ahead of planned anti-immigrant protests are reportedly stranded at South Africa’s Home Affairs offices in Cape Town, waiting for security profiling before they can be repatriated. Zimbabwe says buses are ready to transport the returnees, but South African authorities must first complete a vetting process to confirm identities and check that those leaving are not linked to criminal matters. Zimbabwe presidency spokesperson George Charamba says this is a security process handled by the host country, while the receiving state can only wait and hope the process moves quickly. South African authorities are also said to be planning to move the group closer to the Beitbridge border through Musina, where the process may continue.
