The Reality of Life in Canada Long After Relocation

The reality of life in Canada long after relocation. Leaving your country to start again in a new country can be a challenge. The Nigerian immigrant community in Canada is growing and has seen a huge influx in recent years. However, some people arrived much earlier, in the 2000s, before JAPA became prominent. Will their experiences be similar to or different from those of recent immigrants? In this podcast episode, I speak with Tomiwa, a Nigerian immigrant who arrived 21 years ago, albeit at the age of 10. She shares her experiences about life growing up in two worlds. She eventually overcame the identity crisis of being too Canadian for Nigerian immigrants and too Nigerian for native Canadians. Also, she shared tips on what immigrant parents need to do and look out for to support their immigrant kids on their relocation journey.
