Songwe Regional Commissioner, Hon. Jabiri Omari Makame, has congratulated the Mbozi District Council for its great success in collecting local revenue, saying that the move shows good resource management and accountability of the leaders and executives of the council. Hon. Makame said the Mbozi Council has continued to strengthen revenue collections from the 2022/2023 financial year to 2025/2026. He explained that in 2022/2023 the council had estimated to collect 3.35 billion shillings but managed to collect 5.5 billion shillings. In addition, he said that in the 2025/2026 financial year, the council had set a target of collecting 6.8 billion shillings, but so far it has managed to collect 12.8 billion shillings, equivalent to 115.35 percent of the target, which he described as a great achievement worthy of praise. Due to these achievements, the Regional Commissioner congratulated the Council Chairman, the Council of Councillors, the Council Director, the management team, the District Commissioner as well as the security and defense agencies and Party leaders for their cooperation that contributed to achieving these results. However, Hon. Makame warned about the high dependence of the council's income on the coffee crop. He explained that statistics show that 41.34 percent of the local income, equivalent to more than 5.5 billion shillings, comes from this crop alone. He noted that other major sources of income are maize tax which contributes approximately 2 billion shillings, the sale of plots which contributes 8.8 percent, as well as house tax which contributes 4 percent of the council's income. Hon. Makame stressed the importance of continuing to develop and strengthen other sources of income to reduce dependence on a single crop and ensure that the council's income continues to be strong and sustainable.
