To glorify God is to make Him known. To know God is to know Him by His name and by His redemptive acts, which reveal His character. Even before we thought about mission, God was already involved in the task of making His name known and glorified. We can only collaborate in His mission. God desires cosmic worship! People have idols because they are thirsty for worship. Human beings are irremediably devout. When we proclaim the Gospel, we are calling people to true worship. We do mission because there are still people who do not worship God. Missionary work is not an end, but a means, so that all peoples may glorify the name of God. The name of God fulfilled its ultimate revelation in the Son of God, who became incarnate and entered history to redeem His people. He is the name of God incarnate—the salvation of God—to be proclaimed to all nations and all peoples. The Church exists solely and exclusively for the glory of God. Soli Deo Gloria.
