Ekona Diatta plays "Gambia" on the akonting (ekonting) June 2007
Ekona Diatta, a member of the Jola Casa people from Southern Senegal plays "Gambia" on the akonting (ekonting). Diatta also appears int the film about Bela Fleck's trip to Africa called "Throw Down Your Heart" although (if memory serves me correctly) he is identified as "Jil Diatta, which I presume is a corruption of his French name "Jules". Laemouahuma (Daniel) Jatta is sitting next to his cousin, Ekona. This video was recorded by Chuck Levy in his room at the hotel Bakadaji, in Serekunda, The Gambia.
