How we... do our morning routine with a tracheostomy change
“This is Noah’s morning routine. After his bath every day we clean his neck and put fresh tapes on to hold his tracheostomy. Once every few weeks we change his trachy tube. We take the old one out and insert a new one. Noah gets very anxious at this time because he has so many training carers practise on him. For that reason, we don’t ever tell him when we will do it and so here you see me and the carer commencing normal tape changes with a trachy change. A trachy change is done routinely, but can also be carried out in an emergency - in an emergency situation, if the tube were blocked, this procedure would save Noah’s life”. - Jill, Noah's mum. #notanurse_but
