In other words, the electric motor drives the vehicle in most driving situations, while the engine intervenes for power generation or to improve efficiency. BYD has been developing its DM technology for 18 years since launching the F3DM, the world's first mass-produced PHEV, in 2008. According to BYD, over 80% of total driving is driven by the electric motor.
