Shawshank REDemption

I’m sure most of you have watched or read the story about the life of an honest and decent man, Andy Dufresne. He was forced to fight for his life inside the walls of a prison. They locked him up for life for a crime he did not commit. The film did a very good job with realism: the everyday life of a prison in Ohio, the social groups of criminals and ordinary people who don’t care about anything. This is the life that flows behind the cold walls, and it is exactly this life that Andy Dufresne had to get used to very quickly, even though he did not deserve it at all. At first glance, it seems that this film is about revenge and justice. A powerful story of retribution: we watch the corrupt Norton blow his own brains out to avoid living as a prisoner. We see Norton’s puppet, Hadley, taken into for taking part in his boss’s corrupt schemes. And along with that — a feeling of an incredible emotional explosion: Andy Dufresne standing in a victory pose near the sewage pipe. Excellent visualization of revenge and pure justice for a good man. A story about the triumph of justice. But the film is not called “Escape from Shawshank.” The film is called “The Shawshank Redemption.” It is the title itself that lets us ask the right question even before the film answers it: who or what is this redemption about?
